Why Do We Suffer?

Gathering Hope is s community for mothers who have survived miscarriage or infant loss and desire to continue on the path toward hope and healing in Christ.

October 5th I photographed their annual gathering. It’s a safe time for the moms to share their story and hear a message of hope, strength and encouragement. Peyton Lauderdale, the co-founder shared an emotion quote from Paul David Tripp. It’s a powerful statement on why we suffer.

“Suffering powerfully highlights what has always been true. We were not created for independent living. Suffering exposes our weakness, our blindness, and our lack of control. Suffering preaches that our lives are a community project. Everyone needs help and assistance. To fight community, to quest for self sufficiency, is not only a denial of your spiritual need, its a denial of your humanity. The way that God made you. God makes his invisible grace by sending people of grace, to give grace, to people that need grace. His people are meant to be the look of His face, the touch of His hand, the sound of his voice, the evidence of his love, the picture of His presence and the visible demonstration of His faithfulness. God has not left us to ourselves but has blessed us with an abundant community of help.”
