The Mother of John & Charles Wesley

I was sitting in a small group when a mom told me that I was selfish for having my daughters fourteen months apart.  She continued to say that I should have planned it better so that each child could have experienced quality time with me.  It took everything in me to bite my tongue and not go off on her.  But when I got home, I burst into tears.  I told my husband what this lady had told me.  In my sleep, shower and Bible deprived state; her comment had gotten to me.  When you are tired and have not spent time in the word of God, it’s easy for people’s comments to become toxic thoughts that run wild in your mind. (lol, I’m not going to go into the shower deprived part.)

As a Mom (or a mentor) you want the best for your children.  The more I pray and seek wisdom from God in raising my daughters; He constantly draws me closer to Him.  He guides me to resources to help me be a better parent.  God casually leads me to truths that help strengthen me.  I heard an anecdote of Charles or John Wesley (I can’t remember which brother) wrote about a time in which he was going through a difficult time.  He said, “Oh what I would do to have an evening to discuss this matter with my Mom.”

John Wesley is considered to be the father of Methodism. His brother, Charles, composed more than 6,500 hymns.  How incredibly proud would you have been to be their Mom, Susanna Wesley?!?   Susanna had nineteen children.  Nine of them died in infancy.  With so many children, she valued the importance of quality time with each one.  She would meet with one child for an hour before bed, rotating through her children every night of the week.

When I heard of her story I was very impressed!  I started praying many blessings over my children so that they may make a huge positive impact for the Kingdom of God!  I wanted to know more about Susanna.  While reading her biography I realized that Susanna was like me, flawed.  It was refreshing to know that she wasn’t perfect.  God uses imperfect people to carry out his agenda.  She did not have a lot of resources but did the best with what she was given. She was amazing at homeschooling her children!

I don’t know what I should have told that Mom that was so quick to judge me for having my children closely together.  (Don’t ask Joey and I for advice for scheduling pregnancies, lol!) But I know that God orchestrates everything for a purpose (I guess I should have said that!).  And even though my girls are close in age, I can follow Susanna’s example and prioritize time with each one!  I love that my girls are close in age!  Is it hard?  YES!  But I wouldn’t have it any other way. :)

Austin Getaway

Last week was filled with so much excitement!  I still can't believe that I launched my website on my birthday!!!  The moment I hit LIVE, all I wanted to do was take a nap.

But there's no way I was going to do that.  I quickly told my husband that I wanted to celebrate by getting away to Austin!!!

Austin is the perfect getaway!

Our first stop was El Chipiron.  It's classic Spanish food presented with a modern flare.  I ordered: queso de Cabra con nueces, Gazpacho, Empanadillas de cerdo y pimentón, and Patatas Bravas.  The hubby and I loved it!  I'm not a goat cheese fan but this was good!  Everything was fresh and presented nicely.

My girls had been snacking the whole drive down to Austin so we didn't push for them to try the food.  It was my birthday and I just wanted everything to go smoothly :)

We were in a rush to finish because I wanted to go swimming in the Barton Springs pool.  I had heard rumors that the water was cold... I confirmed that rumor is true!  The water was extremely cold!  But we still had tons of fun and the girls loved looking for fishes.  The highlight of our swimming experience was that at night  people randomly started howling!  #keepaustinweird :) I guess we went on a night with a full moon.?! lol

As we were leaving the park we realized that Zilker Hillside Theatre productions was presenting,  "All Shook Up."  It is a new twist on Shakespeare's Twelfth Night. I hope that you get a chance to go experience it.  I had a blast!  It will be showing Thursdays- Sundays from now until August 18th starting at 8:15pm.

This was definitely one of my best birthdays!  I'm so grateful for everyone who has helped champion the launch of my website.  Thanks for making my birthday memorable!!!

More About Me

Judy with Camera.jpg

I’m the younger of two daughters and the youngest of LOTS of cousins (big Mexican family – too many cousins to count). To top it off, my grandmother let me get away with much more than her other grandchildren.  Perfect childhood, right?!

My story is similar to lots of first generation US citizens. My life reminds me too much of the movie, “My Big Fat Greek Wedding.”  I was “Toula” trying to navigate life while merging two cultures. It had its challenges. One foot in one culture and country while the other foot was in the other. But, I would not have had it any other way!

I love everything about my Mexican culture!  I attribute my overly romantic side to the fact that I watched way too many hours of Telenovelas (Spanish Soap Operas).

I want to share what I have learned of marriage.  I would love for you to get to know me more through my blog.  This will be a safe and fun place to talk about all things love related. I look forward to sharing this space with you.

Love,
Judy
